Terms of Service

Last updated 28 August 2026

These are the terms you agree to when you use Kobora. They are written to be read rather than to be survived, and they say plainly what we owe you and what you owe us.

If you do not agree with them, do not use the app. Using it means you accept them.

1. Who we are

Kobora is a Nigerian payments app. You use it to buy airtime and data, pay for cable TV, electricity and betting, buy exam result checker PINs, buy eSIMs, turn unused airtime into cash, and buy, sell, swap and send cryptocurrency.

Reach us at [email protected] or through Support inside the app.

2. Who can use Kobora

3. Your account and your PIN

You choose a password and a transaction PIN. Both are stored hashed, which means nobody at Kobora can read them — we can only reset them, never tell you what they are.

Nobody from Kobora will ever ask for your PIN, your password, or a one-time code. Anyone who does is trying to rob you, whatever they say their name is. Transactions authorised with your PIN are treated as authorised by you.

Tell us immediately if you think someone else has access to your account. Until you do, we cannot know it is not you.

4. Verification and limits

Nigerian financial regulation requires us to know who our customers are. How much you can hold and move depends on the tier you have reached:

TierWhat it needsWhat it unlocks
Tier 1Phone number verifiedBasic use, with the lowest limits
Tier 2BVN or NIN verifiedHigher limits and more features
Tier 3BVN and NIN, plus face livenessThe highest limits, for high-volume users and merchants

The exact limits are shown in the app and may change. We may ask for verification at any time, and may hold a transaction until it is complete, where the law or our own fraud controls require it.

5. Your wallet

Your Kobora wallet is not a bank account. It holds a balance for making payments on Kobora. It earns no interest, and it is not a savings or investment product.

6. Buying things

Almost everything on Kobora is delivered the moment you pay: airtime lands, data activates, a meter token is issued, an eSIM is provisioned.

Check the details before you confirm. The phone number, meter number, smartcard number or betting ID you enter is the one we send to. A payment delivered exactly as you instructed is not something we can reverse, and neither can the biller.

Prices and rates are shown in the app before you confirm, and the price shown at that moment is the price that applies. Rates change, sometimes several times a day, and a rate you saw yesterday does not bind us today.

What happens when something fails — and what is and is not refundable — is set out in full in our Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms.

7. Airtime to cash

You send airtime to a number we give you, and we pay you the agreed value once we confirm it arrived.

8. Cryptocurrency

Crypto on Kobora requires KYC tier 2 or above. Below that the feature is not available to you, and finishing verification is the only way to reach it.

Kobora is the counterparty to every crypto transaction. There is no order book and no matching against other users. You buy from Kobora at Kobora's rate and sell to Kobora at Kobora's rate, and the rate shown when you confirm is the rate that applies.

Crypto prices move, and they can move against you. Nothing in Kobora is investment advice, and we do not promise that any coin will hold its value. What you buy is worth what the market says it is worth, which may be less than you paid. Never buy with money you cannot afford to lose.

We will never ask for a private key, a seed phrase or a recovery phrase, and neither will anyone legitimate. Anyone who does is stealing from you.

You may not use Kobora's crypto features to launder money, to move the proceeds of crime, or on behalf of anyone else. We monitor for this and report what the law requires us to report.

9. eSIMs

An eSIM is delivered as a QR code or activation details. Its validity begins when the plan is issued, not when you get around to installing it. An eSIM cannot be moved to another phone once installed, and not every handset supports one — check your device before you buy.

10. What you must not do

We report suspected financial crime to the authorities, and we cooperate with banks and law enforcement when they ask.

11. Restricting or closing an account

We may restrict or close an account where you break these terms, where we are legally required to, or where we reasonably suspect fraud or a risk to you or to other customers. Where we can tell you why, we will.

A restricted account can usually still be funded but cannot buy or withdraw. If you think a restriction is wrong, you can appeal it — the app tells you how, and a person reviews it.

You can close your account yourself from Settings, or at kobora.ng/delete-account. Withdraw your balance first. Closing an account does not pay out what is in it. Money left behind remains yours and will be returned to a bank account in your name once you have verified your identity, but that takes time.

12. When things are unavailable

Kobora depends on networks, banks and billers we do not control. Any of them can be slow or down, and when they are, we are too for that service. We do not promise uninterrupted service, and we are not liable for a loss caused by a third party's outage — though we will always tell you what we know and refund what was not delivered.

13. Our responsibility, and its limits

We are responsible for delivering what you paid for, or returning your money if we cannot. We take that seriously and it is the heart of this agreement.

Beyond that, and to the extent Nigerian law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss — lost profit, lost opportunity, lost data, or loss caused by your own mistake in entering a payment detail. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for fraud or death or personal injury caused by negligence.

14. Changes to these terms

We update these terms from time to time and change the date at the top. Where a change materially affects your rights, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Kobora after that means you accept the change.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Nigerian courts have jurisdiction over any dispute.

Before it gets that far, talk to us. Most disputes are resolved through Support, and our Refund Policy sets out how to raise one and how long it takes.
